Owners approve proposed labor deal

NFL owners voted to approve the proposed labor agreement with the NFL Players Association on Thursday, putting the potential end of the league’s lockout in the hands of the players — who might vote on the proposed deal Thursday night.
According to sources, owners voted 31-0 to accept the proposed 10-year collective bargaining agreement, with the Oakland Raiders abstaining. Sources told ESPN.com’s John Clayton that the owners have notified the players they would accept this deal contingent on all union matters being resolved next week, and the players’ association being reconstituted as a union.
One month after beating out Michael Vick in an online vote, we’re seeing the first reported image of Browns running back Peyton Hillis on the cover of the Madden ’12 video game.
Backer to Backer Assistance Needed
A Browns Backers family in Louisiana lost everything to the recent tornado which struck the South East. They are a family of four, a little boy who is 21 months and a little girl who is 7. They are doing what they can to collect belongings from the remains of their house, but have really lost everything.
We are hoping that a few of our BBW clubs can “sponsor” this family and help provide some toys, clothes, food, household items, gift cards, etc.
Please send your donations to Cleveland Browns Stadium (label it from Southern California Browns Backers), and we will mail it all out together:
ATTN: Kelly Carroll
100 Alfred Lerner Way
Cleveland OH 44114
Right now, the family is largely in need of Wal Mart gift cards or cash donations, maybe any hand me down clothes for kids ages 6 (girl) and 21 months (boy), little toys. If anyone else wants to make individual donations, send with the club’s donation and we will get it shipped down or hand delivered within the next few weeks.
Thank you so much for your support!
All Browns Browns Backers are eligible for an exclusive offer when purchasing tickets for the upcoming season.

(Voting Ends April 27)
The Cleveland Browns have fielded just two winning teams in the last 10 years, but their passionate fan base deserves credit for toppling a Super Bowl champion.
Behind the strength of online fan voting, Browns running back Peyton Hillis knocked off Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Super Bowl XLV MVP, on Monday to vault into the finals of the “Madden NFL 12” cover-model contest against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
The winner of the Hillis-Vick showdown will be announced April 27 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Fan voting propelled 10th-seeded Hillis over top-seeded Rodgers by a decisive 61 percent-to-39 percent margin. More than 548,000 people voted.
“It’s no surprise to me that he ended up pulling ahead, and I’d attribute that a lot to our Browns Backers across the country,” said Kelly Carroll, manager of the team’s official fan club, Browns Backers.
Browns hire Pat Shurmur as coach
CLEVELAND — Pat Shurmur’s first head coaching gig is a big one.
The Cleveland Browns hired St. Louis’ offensive coordinator on Thursday, ending a search for their fifth coach since 1999 that began when Eric Mangini was fired on Jan. 3. Shurmur was the first candidate interviewed by Browns president Mike Holmgren.
Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Romeo Crennel and Mangini each failed in trying to build a consistent winner in Cleveland’s expansion era. Now, it’s Shurmur’s turn. The 45-year-old, whose uncle, Fritz, worked under Holmgren in Green Bay, will take over a team that has made just one playoff appearance in 13 years.
